Giorgos Rossides has been working as a special advisor to the Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council on data protection issues, with a particular emphasis on the ongoing negotiations in Council for a reform of EU data protection rules, since May 2012.

He previously held the position of Policy Officer at the Data Protection Unit of the Justice Directorate-General of the European Commission, where he worked on the preparation of the Commission's legislative proposals for the data protection reform. Beyond the reform, his areas of responsibility included data protection in the IT sector, with particular emphasis in new and emerging technologies, such as cloud computing, social networking, and online advertising. He was also involved in the implementation of the data protection legal framework in the areas of Health and Intellectual Property Rights, as well as in the monitoring several EU Member States and third countries.

Between 2005 and March 2010, Giorgos was a Policy Officer at the Health and Consumer Protection Directorate-General, working on Consumer Contract and Marketing Law, focusing on the economic aspects of the design and implementation of consumer protection law.

Giorgos holds a Master's Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford, and a Master's Degree in International Relations and Economics from Columbia University.
